Drama Performances
Year 9 perform a scripted drama, offering them a valuable chance to learn through script interpretation and characters not of their own making. Often the focus in their performance unit is on Shakespeare and has proved to be extremely successful.
Year 10 perform their original, self-devised children’s theatre show. Using the techniques found in children’s theatre, students with their teachers create a show to perform not only to the Junior School but also to the general public in Term 3 each year. These shows are often memorable and outstanding and are a wonderful collaborative experience for all involved.
Year 11 perform a whole class devised political theatre show. Using non-realist techniques of leading theatre practitioners, students perform during Term 2 a political show based on a given theme such as consumerism, immigration, power and equality. These powerful shows are a wonderful prelude to their HSC course and sophisticated choices they can make for the future.
Year 12 perform almost all of their internal assessments publicly. The most significant of those is in Term 3; HSC Drama Trial Exams. Students showcase their major works in group devised performance and individual projects to the general public as well as for internal assessment. This is all part of their preparation for their actual HSC practical and project exams one month later.
