St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Indicative Hours

There has been considerable discussion in the media lately about the over crowding of the Junior School Curriculum. Many educators feel that the emphasis in learning has been lessened on the basic skills and is now focusing more on life skills and social issues.

St Andrew’s is about the development of the ‘whole’ individual within the context of a number of small and large groups.

The Junior School programmes are integrate which means that there is opportunity for students to acquire knowledge, develop skills and determine values and attitudes across Key Learning Areas (KLA) rather than focusing on or applying content to a specific Key Learning Area. However, within the learning and teaching programmes there is an expectation of a KLA focus for each activity or opportunity. So whilst it is difficult to say that a set amount of time each week is allocated to a particular Learning Area or School celebration we can express indicative times throughout the week.

The School’s values ethos and mission are served in the learning content, assemblies and House activities spread throughout the week.

A St Andrew’s Junior School student’s week would be spent largely as follows.
