Year 11 Visual Arts
Preliminary Body of Work
Many are very familiar with the term 'major work'. It is common in many subjects and in the old Visual Arts course. As it translates into student culture, we sit around all year, wondering what to do for our major work, and a few weeks before it is due we pull something together.
The Board of Studies, in their wisdom, conducted research into the art practice of contemporary artists and found it out of step with contemporary art practice.
Contemporary artists are restless creative beings, commonly working in a number of fields on a number of projects; one artwork, leading onto another, exploring the endless field of human experience and emotion. You just don?t find today's artists sitting around for a year wondering what to create.
The "Body of Work" now stands in the place of the major work. Students are to work, create, think, plan, and develop their works throughout the entire year. Students will submit a series of artworks that represent their artmaking experience and endeavours.
In Year 11 students are to consider the skills they wish to acquire before their HSC year and embark on an artmaking exploration that is student driven but teacher guided. Students enjoy the experience of discovering their talents and interests as artists.
