Painting Studio
Teacher: Ms.Giblett
Excursion to Sirius Cove - Mosman
The most popular image of Australia are still those by the Australian Impressionist painters of a century ago. Few realise, that many of these images were created by Artists living in tents on the shores of Sydney Harbour. Mosman was home to these artists in the 1880's & 90's and they set up camp at Little Sirius Cover, near the present site of Taronga Zoo, where they painted in the open air and developed a light-filled style of painting.
The class spends a day wandering, drawing and painting along the "The Painters Walk," a track leading around the foreshore from Cremorne Point, Mosman Bay to Sirius Cove.
Over the next weeks the images are then used to create a large oil painting on canvas.
Digial Media Studio
Teacher: Mr FitzGerald
David Hockney is one of the most famous British artists since WW2. His photographic experiments in the 1980's have strong links with the works of cubist artists. Students will explore the work of David Hockney and the ideas of Picasso and Cubism, which will inform their own unique digital Photo collages. Using Digital photography and high-end professional software, students will experiment and gain confidence in manipulating and creating digital artworks.
Sculpture Studio
Teacher: Ms Delavere
Students will produce a sculpture of their faces using casting and sculpting techniques and in so doing, expand and renew the age-old tradition of portraiture. Students will critically engage with contemporary investigations of the body in art. They will examine a variety of different approaches taken by artists in dealing with the human figure and form. They will apply these new understandings to interpret and critique contemporary art making practices.
