St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Year 9 Visual Arts

Sculpture Studio

Students will be considering the artmaking practice of artists that have made works dealing with representations of memory. They will begin to understand the nature of the subjectivity of memory and experience by deconstructing family photographs and recognising the effects of how we view them.

Students will then extend their investigation by looking a variety of ways artists have used their art making practice to preserve memories, including public art such as memorials and monuments that seek to commemorate an event or group. Students will apply these new critical understandings in developing a proposal and design concept for a memorial that commemorates the victims of the Tsunami.
