St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Carnevale News

Countdown: 2 sleeps!

PLEASE READ THE NEWSLETTER ON THE RIGHT FOR AREAS WHERE WE STILL NEED HELP

Welcome back to the final school term of the year of which Carnevale is a highlight. We have ordered good weather for the day and look forward to seeing as many SACS parents, carers and friends as possible plus a much larger involvement from the general community. Make sure you put the date in your diary and invite your work colleagues as well and keep a look out on the school website for the Carnevale links which will have all the information about the day.

Making Music for the World

Carnevale is a wonderful community celebration that brings thousands into the square every year. As always we will be showcasing our school and our music throughout the day. This year, in line with St. Andrew’s social justice ethos and outstanding reputation for taking ‘music to the world” Carnevale 2009 – Making Music for the World will not only raise funds for the School and the Phillip Heath Scholarship Fund for disadvantaged students, but we also hope to raise awareness of the vital role ethical business practice plays in helping to alleviate world poverty and social injustice.

To this end we have joined with Fair Trade and World Vision to bring to Carnevale 2009 a range of beautiful goods for purchase from all over the world – goods that have been produced in an ethical way and allow Fair Trade and Fair Returns to the community that produced them.

And for the kids….

  • Out with the Base Race and In with the Passport Race provided by World Vision – an interactive game that involves the middle and senior school students searching the Fair Trade stalls for answers to clues. All participants will gain points for their school house.
  • Arevamped Side Show Alley! Along with all the usual side show alley games, a Circus Arena area will be set up to provide an opportunity for the students of all ages to learn circus skills.
  • Activities include: unicycling, spinning plates, hula-hooping (making & decorating), balancing and juggling, face painting and other creative activities such as drumming workshops, Incredibubble Man, Reptile Man and Magic Man will all be there throughout the day to entertain and delight.
  • Art Show and Show bags for Junior School.
  • Religious Art prize and photographic competition with a Social Justice Theme for the Middle and Senior School. Fantastic prizes to be won!

Wristbands are on Sale!!!

Once again we will be offering great value wristbands. This is the best option to enjoy the activities on offer as it saves the students carrying around too much money and lets them focus on the “fun” side of the day. Order them through Box Offcie before Friday 13th November.
