Parent Convenors
On behalf of St Andrew’s Cathedral School and the Association of the Parents and Friends, we wish to thank all 2007 convenors for their support and hard work in helping to bring the School community together. Many of the convenors are seen as quiet achievers but it is well recognised that if not for them the social fabric amongst the parent community would be fragmented because of our unique geographical location that defies “normal” school traditions.
The concept of the convenor was established in 1999 to generate closer communication between parents in each respective year and to build closer communication with the School. The concept has given parents the opportunity to talk with other parents about issues relevant to their child’s year. In the Junior years, the emphasis is ‘getting to know you’, and by the time their child has reached the Middle School and Senior College, the convenors play an important role in making new families feel part of the wider School community. These concepts have been achieved through a variety of social events organised by each year group.
The convenors also support the Association of the P&F, especially in their fundraising activities. The whole community works together, in particular for the annual Carnevale. In this case, each year group is responsible for one or more stalls. Each year group has a coordinator who is the main contact person for the P&F and for the School. This role is vitally important to the School and the P&F, but we have also learned over the years from the convenors themselves, that this is a thoroughly rewarding experience and one that creates life long friendships with other families.
After a very successful Carnevale, the School community enjoyed a well attended volunteer Thank You Supper on the rooftop. It was wonderful to see and meet over 115 volunteers, all of whom had contributed in their own special way to the School community and the P&F. We are always very appreciative of this support and are looking to build on these relationships to create a bigger, bolder and more bountiful year ahead.
As the new community liaison for the School, a very new role for myself, I have been overwhelmed by the support that the St Andrew’s community provides to their students and staff.
I would like to build on the existing culture that the convenors team has created which is founded on enthusiasm, openness, warmth and friendship.
To the existing convenors, thank you so much for all your endeavours over the past year/s and I look forward to working with you again in the coming year.
For new parents, or parents who have not been involved before, I would like to extend an invitation to become involved with this wonderful group of people. If you have any queries or would like to talk about becoming a convenor, please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone, 02 9286 9515, or by email, jworkman@sac.nsw.edu.au
The first Convenors gathering for the new year will be held on Wednesday 20 February 2008 at 6.30pm, and we would love to see as many parents there as possible.
Once again thank you to the SACS community at large for all of your support over the past year.
