St Andrew’s seeks to nurture in students hearts that love and lives that give. Our desire is to see students develop a heart for service and that this would lead students to use their gifts and abilities to serve in the world both while at school and throughout their lives. We are motivated by a belief that every individual is made in God’s image and therefore has dignity and infinite value. We view everything in life as ultimately coming from God’s hand and believe that we have been entrusted to use the gifts we have received to care for people in need.
St Andrew’s service learning program aims to be sequential, integrated and age-appropriate. We have partnered with a number of charitable organisations to develop a range of opportunities that enable students to have authentic service-learning experiences.
Our major charitable partners include:
Tear Australia (their work responding to the needs of poor communities around the world)
Anglicare (delivering extensive community service programs, and serving the elderly in Anglican Retirement Villages)
Local Anglican churches serving Sydney’s homeless
The whole school is involved in a service partnership with TEAR Australia, particularly connected to their work in a community in India. Students in Kindergarten to Year 9 also partner with Anglicare Sydney. In the Senior College we are building on the success of our partnership with Rough Edges Café, run by St John’s Darlinghurst, and partner with three other local churches who are serving people in Sydney who are sleeping rough.
