Kirrikee Outdoor Education

Kirrikee Outdoor Education

Leading the way in outdoor education

St Andrew’s is recognised as one of Sydney’s and indeed Australia’s top schools for outdoor educational pursuits. Our Kirrikee Outdoor Education programme commences in Year 3 and gives students the chance to experience activities such as camping, skiing, trekking, mountain biking and canoeing. Kirrikee is an Aboriginal name for the Flying Kite bird of prey, signifying our students’ opportunity to soar to the height of their potential.

Managed internally and tailored for our students

Unlike other private schools, St Andrew’s Outdoor Education programme is developed, managed and run by SACS staff, therefore enabling a better relationship between staff and students. Our 90 hectare property in the Southern Highlands is the base for many of our outdoor activities.

Experiences of a lifetime

The Kirrikee Outdoor Education programme gives students the opportunity to go to places that many others never have the chance to experience. From sea kayaking on Myall Lakes, to a winter ascent of Mount Kosciuszko and the exhilaration of skiing off its summit; hiking and white-water canoeing for 20 days from Kosciuszko to the Victorian Coast; mountaineering in New Zealand; community service with an Indigenous community in the Northern Territory and many other outdoor adventures, St Andrew’s is constantly seeking to expose its students to the diverse beauty of the natural world.

Education beyond the classroom

Outdoor Education at SACS takes students outside their comfort zones, challenging them constantly and aiding them as they mature into young adults. These experiences develop outdoor skills and leadership abilities of students, as well as help them to reflect spiritually and form strong and lasting friendships.

Activities to suit everyone

From camping and walking on the Kirrikee property to overseas expeditions in developing countries, the Kirrikee Outdoor Education programme has something for everyone. Our diverse, challenging and stimulating programme allows students to attend an expedition that will suit their interests and abilities.
