Music scholarships

Music Scholarship provide aspiring musicians with the opportunity to work with highly qualified teachers; be provided tuition, musicianship and ensemble activities; and have access to the Andrean family of artists, mentors, classes and concerts.

Our highly sought-after music scholarships are offered through a competitive application and live audition process. These music scholarships recognise potential and provide the opportunity to develop each student’s musical gifts and talents.

At the heart of the St Andrew’s Cathedral School’s music scholarships programme is a team 10 full-time music teachers and over 45 music tutors. These professional educators all have outstanding qualifications to PhD level as both performers and teachers, offering world-class music pedagogy in the classroom, in ensembles and in individual music tuition from beginner level through to AMEB LMusA and beyond.

Thanks to the generosity of the St Andrew’s Cathedral School Council, music scholarships are open to all instruments including:

  • strings (including harp)
  • woodwind
  • brass
  • piano (classical or jazz)
  • singing (classical or contemporary)
  • percussion (drum kit and orchestral percussion)
  • composition

Students and non-students of St Andrew’s Cathedral School are encouraged to apply for this highly sought after opportunity.

A St Andrew’s Cathedral School music scholarship provides aspiring musicians with the opportunity to work with highly qualified teachers. In addition to continuing in their individual music tuition, scholars are provided with a wealth of ensemble activities, world-class performance opportunities and access to the Andrean family of artists and mentors. These life-changing opportunities reinforce a love of music and motivate scholars to pursue musical excellence through a refined talent development programme.

Music scholarships are available to students entering Years 4, 5 and/or 6 and Years 7 to 11 to strengthen the already vibrant music programme at the School. Music scholarships are open to students presently enrolled at the School and to students wishing to enter St Andrew’s Cathedral School the year following their application. Scholarships are subject to an application process and shortlisted candidates are invited to audition for the Director of Performing Arts and other panel members. This audition is followed by an interview with the School’s Registrar if successful.

Who can apply?

We invite high-achieving, talented musicians to apply for music scholarships, helping to set them on a pathway to musical success as part of their academic pursuits. Music scholarships (at a range of percentages) are offered to encourage students with instrumental or vocal proficiency, or students who may be particularly gifted in music composition.
