Student Leadership

Leading with Heart

At St Andrew’s, leadership enriches learning. We believe that every student has the capacity to become a leader. Leadership programmes are run for students from Year 7 to Year 11, using the Circle Programme . It enables students to see the relevance of leadership and see how they can use their skills to help others.

Students are given many opportunities to practice their leadership skills and be of service to others, both in School activities and broader community service. Student leaders are encouraged to provide leadership from the heart, with consistency, commitment and respect.

Junior School Leadership

Around 12 leadership positions are appointed in Year 6 following nomination and speeches.  The student body vote for their representative leadership team. These students hold important roles of community service and mentoring.  They often speak at assemblies and provide important role models to our younger students. They have an important profile in the Junior School.

Middle School Leadership

Around 16 leadership positions are appointed in Year 9, following an application and interview process. These students take up significant roles in areas such as community service, peer mentoring, and representing the School in a variety of ways.

Senior School Leadership

The Senior School offers many levels of leadership. In Year 11, students provide a vital role in mentoring Year 7 students by assisting them to settle into Middle School.

By Year 12, every student is considered a leader and proudly wears a student leader badge on their blazer. In the July preceding Year 12, the School Leadership  Team is announced. This allows the students to shadow the current team before taking office in Term 4. All Year 12 students are encouraged to become involved in the many projects that are developed and driven by the team.

Student leaders are involved in a range of activities both within and outside the school:

• Public speaking
• Event planning
• Contribution to school planning
• Fundraising
• Supporting the School ethos and codes of behaviour

The School Captains meet weekly with Dr Collier, Head of School, and the whole team meet fortnightly with Mrs Katy John, Director of Student Services.
