Supportive Learning Culture

Modern Classrooms and Facilities

Situated in St Andrew’s House, the Middle School learning environment includes open, glass walled classrooms with easy access to learning technologies such as Laptops, SmartBoards and data projectors. Other facilities include, a well-equipped library, tiered-step drama classrooms and an in-house black box theatre, state of the art science laboratories and a Technology and Applied Science Centre. Technology is an important aspect of classroom activity, utilised purposefully as a tool for differentiating learning, not a replacement for quality teaching.

Accommodating Student Needs

Our teaching staff work closely with parents and strive to ensure lessons accommodate the varied learning needs of students. They are supported by a pastoral network of Academic Coordinators, Year Coordinators and Year-based tutors.

Supporting Learning

Our Middle School aims to go beyond the curriculum and ignite the students’ thirst for learning. This can be in a variety of ways including in-classroom celebrations of Shakespeare Week or National Science week, CHAOS (Chaotic, Amazing and Outrageous Science) enrichment classes for gifted science students or a wealth of co-curricular opportunities in music, sport and the creative arts. Whenever appropriate we seek to unite our students with the city’s rich facilities, such as galleries, museums or local businesses.

Watch: Head of Middle School, Mr David Smith, shares his perspective on the culture of care and unique educational philosophies within the St Andrew's Middle School.
