St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Bishop Barry Senior College

In 1991, the Senior College commenced at 51 Druitt Street, about four minutes walk from St Andrew's House. The original three floors of educational space will be progressively expanded following the School's purchase of three additional floors - Level 3 and 4 and the Ground Floor - since 2002. These floors will be progressively developed for senior learning during 2003 and 2004. The School now owns six floors in the 13-level building.

The success of the Senior College concept lies in the interactive, collegial atmosphere that operates between students and teaching staff. Senior students learn in an environment that provides a transition between Middle School learning and tertiary or workplace situations while providing excellent facilities for students undertaking the Higher School Certificate.

Compared to many suburban independent schools, St Andrew's students enjoy flexible learning situations because of the School's City location. This advantage carries certain student responsibilities regarding study and learning patterns along with discipline patterns for movement between centres and during recess and lunchtime breaks. Students become disciplined in their School life to complete study tasks and achieve curriculum goals. Such 'freedom' to learn in a city environment has been identified as a key attraction for senior girls seeking enrolment at St Andrew's in Year 10 and 11.

Student occupation

Years 10 to 12 (approximately 580 students) are based in the Senior College while some Middle School classes are held in the College.
