St Andrew's Oval
During 1999 the School negotiated a ten year licensing agreement with St Andrew's College at the University of Sydney to utilise the College Oval for summer and winter team sports.
Since that time the oval has been improved considerably with financial support from the School Foundation. Realignment and grading of the oval surface has improved water runoff and overall drainage which has been upgraded by slit trenching across the entire surface. Seeding and re-grassing has maintained the oval in excellent condition despite its arduous use throughout the year.
Team use of the oval for practise and competition has increased the sporting involvement among students and helped improve individual fitness levels and overall team playing standards especially in Cricket, Rugby, Softball and Football.
The agreement with St Andrew's College included use of the historic Gillespie Hall on the Eastern side of the oval which had been used as the College library and reading room. Because the building had been disused for a number of years the School Foundation contributed funds towards its restoration in return for its unhindered use as a post-match hospitality and entertainment venue for sports teams. The facilities match the ambience and goodwill generated by inter-school sports for visiting teams and their supporters.
The restoration included painting, recarpeting and installation of a new kitchen and amenity area to service functions and dinners seating up to 120 people. Gillespie Hall is widely used for parent functions and dinners as well as by the Old Andreans Association for year group gatherings. School memorabilia and sports photos adorn the walls or are displayed in presentation cabinets.
The School utilises other sports facilities at the University of Sydney for Netball, Hockey and Tennis throughout the year.
