Junior School
St Andrew’s Cathedral Junior School has a coeducational enrolment of students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. The Junior School is a busy productive city learning environment with traditional Christian values and ethos as framework to a vibrant comprehensive contemporary curriculum. Perspectives of the city and the Cathedral permeate the learning environment and curriculum.
St Andrew’s Cathedral School is a particularly unique educational environment for Junior School students. By location and expectation students are guided to the development of independence and acceptance of personal and civic responsibility from a young age.
The learning programmes are commensurate with a comprehensive student enrolment. The academic and pastoral programmes cater for students requiring remediation through to extension for a particular gift or talent. The learning environments facilitate positive relationships and interaction where knowledge and friendship are shared and developed.
Student learning is reinforced by appropriately managed class sizes. We believe smaller classes enable teachers to devote added time to each student, to better appreciate individual learning styles and to closely monitor each student's learning progress.
Cocurricular programmes support the core programmes to further enhance the development of the whole student. At various stages in a student’s development priorities may vary, however, the overall aim is the development of a student’s academic, social, physical, cultural and spiritual self.
Our intent and practice aim to provide a close educational bond between home and school to ensure each student’s learning needs are carefully considered, catered for and monitored. Parents / carers are encouraged as coeducators to maintain regular contact with class teachers and the Head of Junior School. The concept of a community of learning is expressed in our rhetoric and practices. There are a diverse range of parent / carer involvement opportunities within the School.
