About the Fund

St Andrew's Cathedral School Foundation - Phillip Heath Scholarship Fund

“Please make your gift with passion, just imagine how many children we may be able to help, children who would otherwise not have the chance to be educated at St Andrew’s”

“Beginning in 1995, my wife Julie and I sent our children to St Andrew’s, just at the time Phillip heath took the helm. Phillip led the recovery of the School. He consolidated and then orchestrated its growth on a wide front. I saw some of this as a parent, but much more as the parent nominee on the School Council. To recognise Phillips’ first 5 years of leadership Julie and I made our largest donation ever: to set up a continuing Phillip Heath Scholarship fund. We wanted to provide an academic opportunity to a financially disadvantaged student. To continue Phillip’s work at St Andrew’s, Julie and I have made another major donation to the Scholarship Fund. Special thanks to those who have already donated. Please make your gift with Phillip Heath’s passion – in the history of the School there is no more auspicious time to donate”.
Simon Gandevia, Parent at St Andrew’s 1995-2004, speaking at the Parents and Friends Farewell Dinner to Phillip Heath, 13 June 2009.

The history of St Andrew’s Cathedral School is a story of successfully meeting challenge and change. Next year the School will celebrate 125 years since it was established in 1885 to offer quality Christian education in the heart of Sydney. Established as a choir school with 27 boys, it is now a leading school in Sydney, fully coeducational and with over 1200 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

With its strong history of Anglican education in the unique setting of Sydney Square, alongside the Cathedral and Sydney Town Hall, the School has dedicated its energies to the education, care and well being of the students. As part of this commitment St Andrew’s has, since 1885, offered support to worthy students who would otherwise not be able to attend St Andrew’s because of financial hardship. This fund is in honour of Mr Phillip Heath’s Headship of the School from 1995 to 2009 and his significant contributions to the School during this time “The real nature of St Andrew’s rests in its deeply personal and committed sense of service to others within our community. This commitment applies to all areas of our life and work and expresses itself in the joy of seeing others prosper and flourish in the gifts God has given them”. Phillip Heath, Head St Andrew’s Cathedral School 1995 - 2005, The Andrean, 1998.

This Scholarship fund not only celebrates the legacy of Mr Phillip Heath and his 15 years of Headship at St Andrew’s. This is a scholarship fund founded and funded by parents and friends of the School thereby creating a truly lasting legacy. The wonderful generosity of those who have donated to the fund reflect the deep sense of community within St Andrew’s. Parents Simon and Julie Gandevia made a significant donation in 2000 along with other year 12 parents over the years, to set up a continuing Scholarship Fund in Phillip Heath’s name. We are most grateful for the support of parents and friends, including the Association of Parents and Friends to help us reach this year’s target of $100,000. The accumulation of a corpus of money for this fund within the School Foundation will enable a number of scholarships to be offered to students in need.

“We celebrate our remarkable location, the talent and commitment of our staff and a strong community of families and friends of our School that sustain and enrich the experience of our students”. Phillip Heath, Head of School Report, 2008, St Andrew’s Cathedral School.
