St Andrew’s Cathedral School

Health Centre

The School Health Centre operates from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm from Monday to Friday and is located on Level 6 of St Andrew's House – near the Year 7 locker area.

It is staffed by two registered nurses, Rosemary Latter (Health Centre Coordinator) and Megan James. Between them they provide full cover of the Health Centre with the occasional help of a relief nurse when needed. There is only one nurse on duty at a time.

The School nurses are responsible for the day to day health of all students so that they may participate in the classroom setting and learn to their greatest potential. The School nurses responsibilities include health mentoring, health promotion, emergency care and counselling. They also provide health care for children with special needs.

Felicity and Rosemary try to ensure quality of nursing care to students by attending professional development courses as they arise. Felicity attended a Young People’s Health conference for three days in November 2007, and Rosemary regularly attends Occupational Health and Safety meetings. In January 2007, Rosemary and Felicity attended a two day School Nurses’ Conference which included relevant topics such as youth suicide and depression, children with disabilities, diabetes, CPR, eating disorders, immunisation, etc.

The Health Centre records approximately 40 visits a day. There are three beds available if needed.
