{"id":559,"date":"2022-01-29T22:08:19","date_gmt":"2022-01-29T11:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sacs.nsw.edu.au\/middle\/in-the-classroom\/how-our-students-learn\/specialised-learning-2\/"},"modified":"2022-04-19T17:24:41","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T07:24:41","slug":"specialised-learning-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sacs.nsw.edu.au\/middle\/in-the-classroom\/how-our-students-learn\/specialised-learning-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Gifted Education programme"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gifted Education program<\/strong>me<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-font-azo has-blue-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size\">Academic excellence, challenge, opportunity and choice, in an environment which supports the holistic intellectual and socio-emotional development of each gifted and talented learner \u2013 this is what our Gifted Education programme in Years 7-9 aspires to achieve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Our Extension classes in Years 7-9 in core subjects and advanced classes in others, together with cluster grouping, extension and enrichment aims to support the intellectual needs of our gifted and talented students.&nbsp;In addition, subject and year group acceleration is another option for our highly gifted students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gifted Education programmes and opportunities in the Middle School include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gifted identification and assessment<\/li><li>The development of a Gifted Education Profile (GEP) for highly gifted students<\/li><li>Transition programmes developed specifically for gifted students&nbsp;<\/li><li>Academic coaching and interventions for gifted students who are Twice Exceptional, underachieving or EAL\/D<\/li><li>Collaborative planning with teachers, students and parents to meet the unique learning needs of gifted and talented students<\/li><li>Social-emotional programmes and interventions, geared towards the specific needs of gifted and talented students&nbsp;<\/li><li>Academic competitions and Olympiads across all multiple subject areas<\/li><li>A variety of clubs to develop student talents, including Robotics, Science and Philosophy Club<\/li><li>Participation in the Da Vinci Decathlon and Gateway8 competitions.<\/li><li>Project Catalyst, our in-house peer mentorship programme&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Extension classes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 2 extension classes for Mathematics, English and Science and 1 \u2013 2 Music Extension classes and an extension Chinese class for those who have some prior knowledge of the language.
