Alex Chorley (Year 11) has taken out the prestigious Cantorion Singing Competition final on Sunday 7 May! Five St Andrew’s students advanced to the final nine, with all winning a cash prize or vocal tuition just for advancing to the final. Andrew Waldin (Year 12), Justin Chen (Year 8), Trystan Go (Year 10) and William Rogut (Year 11) joined Alex in the finals. Alex (pictured), who was the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz musical received the Van Leucia recording prize consisting of five hours of studio recording time with a pianist of their choice, with up to three songs/Lieder/arias mixed and mastered.
The final competition performances were presented to a public audience and five adjudicators at St Peter’s Presbyterian Church in North Sydney. They were asked to sing the song they performed in the heats and a second contrasting song, along with the first verse and chorus of Calon lân from memory.
