St Andrew’s Cathedral School is very pleased with its 2018 NAPLAN results (just released) across Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The results show considerable improvement across the range on 2017’s very satisfying outcomes. They also show strong growth in individual students as they move through the years of NAPLAN. This is especially encouraging as SACS is an open, inclusive, comprehensive school, which includes students who find some aspects of learning to be a challenge, hosts mobile international students and has many for whom English is not their first language. Nonetheless, our students are well above state average in all measures in all year groups.
The MySchool website compares school NAPLAN results with other schools that are allegedly similar but which are not, because their student profiles are quite different, and indeed some are selective schools.
St Andrew’s is not a NAPLAN ‘hot house’ school which consumes precious learning time in endless NAPLAN drills or encourages anxious parents to purchase commercial NAPLAN resources. Rather, we choose to spend the time on educating across the whole breadth and depth of the curriculum, believing that if the education is excellent, the NAPLAN results will look after themselves. NAPLAN is a limited measure, which tests very small parts of the curriculum. Our emphasis is on supporting our students to do their very best across the curriculum and also on our exit outcomes at the end of Year 12, that is, student ATARs and their destinations. We are delighted at the large numbers of our graduates who achieve entry to their first choice university degree at their preferred university.
