Year 12 IB Visual Arts Virtual Exhibition

The IBDP Visual Arts Virtual Exhibition 2021 is the culmination of two years of studio practice and theoretical investigations by students who have undertaken the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme course in Visual Arts at St Andrew’s Cathedral School in 2020 – 2021.

The studio work is grounded in the aims of the IB DP Visual Arts Programme where students are encouraged to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. Students devise their work by developing analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers.

The work exhibited seeks to answer the challenge to actively explore the visual arts within and across a variety of local, regional, national and international and intercultural contexts. Through inquiry, investigation, reflection and creative application, the students have developed an appreciation for the expressive and aesthetic diversity in the world around them becoming critically informed makers and consumers of visual culture.

Due to the tight Covid restrictions, the students were unable to host the exhibition at the GAFFA Gallery on Clarence Street in the city. The students persevered through this setback and created a virtual exhibition at school or at home, (ensuring they were aligned with modified assessment objectives).

The students’ perseverance and determination to create their final body of work through all of the challenges presented during two lengthy lockdowns within this course is to be admired!
