{"id":435,"date":"2022-01-24T12:44:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T01:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sacs.nsw.edu.au\/senior\/beyond-the-classroom\/further-education-and-career-development\/"},"modified":"2025-07-24T10:50:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T00:50:15","slug":"further-education-and-career-development","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sacs.nsw.edu.au\/senior\/beyond-the-classroom\/further-education-and-career-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Further education and career development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Further education and career development<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to individual careers counselling, further education and career development provides students and parents with relevant resources and information in relation to subject and programme selection (HSC or IB) and tertiary study options across the higher and vocational education sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-font-azo has-blue-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size\">A comprehensive careers assessment in Year 10 provides a sound basis for further exploration considering aptitude strengths, personal style and attributes, transferable skills, and career interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Industry engagement through a number of unique school-based and external programmes, and other initiatives allows students to find relevance and purpose in their learning (school subjects) in view of possible further study and career aspirations. The school\u2019s city location offers the opportunity for diverse corporate engagement and initiatives with surrounding organisations which are developed and refreshed annually. Ways of engaging (with) younger students are constantly being sought based on research undertaken by various entities, including Cahill and Furey in&nbsp;\u2018The Early Years \u2013 Career Development for Young Children\u2019 (2017). Further Education and Career Development is managed by the Head of Careers &amp; Pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>External courses<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Students commencing Year 11 and 12 HSC studies have the option to undertake subjects not offered at the School, but by a variety of external providers. These are typically of two unit value and are undertaken over two years, however, one unit in one year subjects are also available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Languages, as well as some TVET (TAFE) courses, count towards the HSC and an ATAR. Students would undertake the external subject in addition to their school subjects and if a school subject can be discontinued, this will occur after it is established that a student is performing well in the external subject. Discussions with relevant staff will occur in relation to this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>External subjects come at an additional cost to parents.
