Our teachers win big at state award ceremony

We’re excited to share that nine of our terrific teachers were honoured at the annual Teachers’ Guild Awards, at the end of 2024. We are delighted that their achievements and their dedication to providing expert teaching was recognised. The Teachers’ Guild Awards honour NSW teachers for raising the bar in quality education and their commitment to enhancing professional knowledge, improving practice, finding ways to engage with students and fostering relationships with the community.

We hosted the 5th annual Research Conversations Conference

The Conference is designed to up skill and connect international educators, allowing them to source and evaluate educational research. This year we had 90 participants, accessing high-quality professional development to bridge the gap between research and educational practice.

Her seminar helped build HSC students’ understanding of John Keats’ romantic roots, the importance of his aesthetic of negative capability and provided new avenues of insight to engage with the ‘Texts in Conversation’ HSC Module A.

Dr Kirsten Macaulay represents the Australian Society of Music Education (ASME NSW) at a Joint Committee of Parliament

On July 30, Dr Kirsten Macaulay, Deputy Head of Quality Teaching (K-12), represented the Australian Society of Music Education (ASME NSW) at a Joint Committee of Parliament. Alongside ASME NSW Chair, Debra Batley and many other strong advocates, associations and researchers, the committee considered how arts and music are taught in schools.

HMC visit St Andrew’s

Last Friday, we were delighted to host General Secretary of HMC (The Heads’ Conference), Dr Simon Hyde and Ms Howell, HMC Director of Education for a tour of our School. Visiting from the UK, they were welcomed by Head of School, Dr Julie McGonigle who provided insight into the inner workings of a high-rise, inner-city school.

Term 3 CoachMeet!

We were so proud to host the Term 3 CoachMeet!St Andrew’s Cathedral School welcomed the Australian Edu Coaches Community on 6 August. Elle Smith, Senior Learning Coach and PDHPE teacher, presented on ‘Strategic Coaching Conversations: Leveraging flexibility and adaptability to address the complex and open nature of school system’. Her presentation made use of the ‘Persistent’ Character Strength to discuss what is required to build both cultural and behavioural change to assist professional growth.

Gifted and Talented Secondary Teachers Association (GATSTA) for professional development and networking

Last week, 40 Gifted and Talented teachers from all over Sydney gathered at St Andrew’s Cathedral School. Our Head of Gifted Education (Secondary) Estee Stephenson was one of the guest speakers and was joined by Desilee Tait and Marisa Virtich from Loreto Kirribilli.

Cultural Awareness Training at St Andrew’s Cathedral School

After receiving input from teachers, our Quality Teaching Team (QTT) ran a fantastic selection of Cultural Awareness Training Workshops this term. The QTT along with staff from across the School brainstormed, developed and organised seven different workshops staff could choose from. Staff were encouraged to choose a workshop to attend that most interested them, would help build their skills in their roles, or perhaps in an area that they’d had little exposure to before.
