Welcome to St Andrew's Cathedral School
St Andrew’s is a coeducational non-selective school admitting students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The School enjoys three campuses, namely St Andrew’s House on Sydney Square (for students from Kindergarten to Year 9) and the Bishop Barry Centre (51 Druitt Street) Senior College (for students from Years 10 to 12). There is also a campus within the School for 25 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children (K to 6) known as Gawura. The School emphasises a strong but flexible academic programme that encourages students to fulfil and even to exceed their academic potential within a context of authentic pastoral care. The overwhelming majority of St Andrew’s students pursue university and tertiary studies.
As the quintessential city school in Australia, St Andrew’s makes extensive use of the City's learning resources through our City Links programme. Civic, business, legal and commercial centres, museums and cultural centres are widely utilised to ensure St Andrew's is a stimulating place to learn. The City adds its own dynamism and experiences that give further individuality to the School and its pupils.
To complement our city learning environment, the School enjoys access to the playing fields and sporting facilities at the University of Sydney and at nearby Wentworth Park. The School’s 88 hectare outdoor education property known as Kirrikee is located in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Students from Years 3 to 10 experience a sequential outdoor education programme that includes diverse activities such as caving, snow camping and canoeing. Kirrikee Leadership training enables senior students to assist with leadership on junior camps.
Emphasising the education of the 'whole person' the School has an extensive cocurricular activity programme that includes a diverse range of sports for boys and girls, and an enviable reputation for music performance, musical theatre and the dramatic arts. Whilst the School pursues excellence and outstanding quality we also emphasise the merits of inclusive participation of all students.
St Andrew's Cathedral School ‘Gawura’, a Kindergarten to Year 6 campus for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who live in the City provides a strong focus on literacy and numeracy set down in the context of celebration and pride in Aboriginal cultural identity and spirituality. Our Gawura programme continues to demonstrate real growth in the academic proficiency of our indigenous children. We look forward to their progression through the Senior College and into tertiary education beyond.
St Andrew’s students come from all over Sydney. This diversity enriches the cultural life of the School and engenders a community in which the values of grace, integrity, justice, compassion, mutual respect and care for others may thrive. As a Christian school within the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, our values are set down in the context of Christian belief, providing a lifelong ethical framework that will nourish the society in which they will take their place as Old Andreans.
St Andrew’s students are also global citizens. Sydney is an emerging global city and it is fitting for this global perspective to be evident within our own city school. International and intercultural respect and understanding are a necessity of 21st century life. Many members of our School Community live, study and work around the world and we are committed to celebrating our diversity and encouraging our students to see a future without borders.
