MINI MUSIC MAESTROS…
Last Friday, some of our youngest musicians performed for their peers in the Chapter House at our annual Infants Music Concert. Despite a few nervous smiles and pre-performance jitters, all the students performed exceptionally!
Kate Robertson, Head of Music (K-6), said that “having the opportunity to perform from such a young age gives our students the chance to grow in confidence, develop their musical skills and work towards a goal, all while helping their technical skills to progress”.
We are incredibly proud of these students, whether they were fresh Kindergarten recruits or seasoned Year 2 performers. This wouldn’t be possible without our gifted and dedicated accompanist Ms Szu Yu Chen, who gave inspired support and care in the weeks leading up to the performance and especially on the day.
A big thank you to our music tutors for preparing these students so brilliantly and congratulations to everyone who performed.#lifegivinglearning

TRAILBLAZING RIDERS…
Last week, fifteen Year 10 students embarked on an epic six-day horse riding adventure through the Victorian High Country. As much as this was a physically demanding journey, it was also the chance to develop in both character and faith.
The outdoor education programme at St Andrew’s Cathedral School is an essential and much-loved part of every student’s experience. All students gain skills beyond the classroom and benefit from the adventure-based educational journeys. For this group of students, their focus was to learn new horse-riding skills including how to saddle a horse, how to ride, trot and canter, look after their horses, camp and cook over the six days of the trek. While these skills came naturally for some, it wasn’t easy for all.
Ava Saad (Year 10) said that “it was really difficult at the beginning, especially because I had never ridden a horse before”. Ava said that “the uphills were really difficult because I had to learn to stand up while riding the horse as well as keeping a firm hold on the reins, which required a lot of skill and coordination”. However, she said that “the Character Strength that really developed on this journey was Persistence,” because by the end, all the skills she learned in the first few days helped her and the other group members immensely as the they completed a full-day ride from Camp Howqua to Watson’s Trail Ride Farm, Booroolite.
A unique part of the programme is that students of all experience levels are invited and encouraged to join – whether they are completely new to horse riding or if they have several years of experience under their belt, making the trip accessible to all.
Camp Coordinator, Paris Condon, said that the horse-riding journey was an excellent opportunity for the Year 10 students to spend time away from home to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. And so, it wouldn’t be an Outdoor Ed journey if there wasn’t some hardship along the way! At the beginning of the journey, one student’s horse was particularly moody and difficult to manage – as all horse riders know, every horse has an individual personality- just like us!But this student persisted with courage and continued the journey with their horse, eventually forming a friendly bond, instilling a sense of accomplishment, alongside peaceful enjoyment.

STORYTIME SHENANIGANS – TRIVIA NIGHT A BEST-SELLING TALE OF TRIUMPHOne of the most enjoyable nights on the School calendar is without doubt the biennial parent trivia night, and this instalment was no exception!More than 290 parents were transformed into storybook characters and transported to a world of literary imagination as they played trivia, ate, drank and danced the night away. All while raising money for the Heath Bursary Fund, which is used to give support to members of our community suffering unforeseen financial hardship. We had Cats in Hats, Little Mr’s and Miss’s, Crayons, Ballerinas and Where’s Wally’s, but special mention must go to the Hungry Caterpillars for best team costume, King Arthur and his Knights for best table decoration (complete with pigs head!) 😱 and to Martin Ford for best costume - coming dressed as the actual chimney found at the Dursley house in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.Bragging rights for the next two years go to the Rainbow Fairies who took the honours as winners of the trivia competition. We also cannot forget those who won the individual games, including one on ‘teenage slang’ – IYKYK. Facts. 😉Our silent auction was a great success, some amazing prizes were on offer and were quickly snapped up including a holiday to Bali, a Sydney Harbour vivid cruise, a boutique Bondi Beach hotel package and even an St Andrews House week long lift pass! A special thank you to all who donated and those who donated contents of the 31 hampers which all sold out on the night. This event would not have been possible without the tireless work of the Community Engagement team, who put in long hours masterminding and executing the event all while we partied the night away.In essence it was a celebration of SACS Pride; a moment to celebrate each other; to celebrate the partnership that we have in helping our children to become the best version of themselves. It was a celebration of community strength and gratefulness for all that we have been, are and will be.#lifegivinglearning

SAILING THE HIGH SEAS
Over the school holidays, Danielle Chapman and Cyd Sadler (Year 11) represented St Andrew’s Cathedral School at the annual NSW All Schools Sailing Championships in Belmont NSW. It’s always great to see our students participating in such a wide variety of sports, especially at competition-level.
The championship sees students from schools across Australia coming to Belmont to compete and the competition is always fierce. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful day out on the water and the girls are looking forward to building a larger team at our School in preparation for next year’s championships!

Our thespians are back! After spending an action-packed two weeks in the USA, our drama students are finally home – and they haven’t stopped raving about their unforgettable trip! From watching numerous theatre productions across the three cities, to choreographing battle scenes with some of Chicago’s most prestigious fight directors, to remembering to “keep to the right” on the bustling sidewalks of New York, this journey was filled with variety and adventure!
But it wasn’t all work. In the afternoons our students explored the cities, from the 9/11 Memorial to Central Park, to many of Chicago’s amazing Art Deco buildings, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Santa Monica Pier. The students even visited a real American high school – Chicago Performing Arts High School and shared Vegemite and TimTams with their new American friends.
The 2024 USA Drama Tour was a unique and exciting learning opportunity - especially valuable for our up-and-coming actors looking to do more on the stage in Australia or across the world. None of this would have been possible without our amazing teachers, Ms Munro, Ms Robinson and Mr Lindsay. We are very grateful for their guidance, care and supervision on this trip.
