Sydney Writers’ Festival

Last Thursday, students from Years 3–6 attended the Sydney Writers’ Festival Primary School Days programme at Sydney Town Hall, joining a vibrant celebration of stories, ideas and imagination.

Across the day, students participated in engaging sessions with acclaimed children’s authors and illustrators, hearing directly about the craft of storytelling and the joy of reading and writing. They had the opportunity to ask questions, meet presenters during breaks and explore the dedicated festival bookshop.

It was a fantastic experience that encouraged curiosity, creativity and a deeper love of literature.

Today, on National S

Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength and resilience of First Nations Peoples and remember the Stolen Generations.

Yesterday, our Middle School students and staff gathered for a special assembly featuring a reflection from Ms Bronwyn Wake, Head of Character and Wellbeing, a moving video exploring the experiences of the Stolen Generations and a flute performance by one of our students.

As a School community, we recognise the importance of listening, learning and acknowledging the truths of Australia’s history. National Sorry Day reminds us of the ongoing impact of past injustices and the responsibility we share in walking together towards reconciliation.

At St Andrew’s Cathedral School, this learning and reflection remains an ongoing journey for our community.

The Future of: Medic

The Future of: Medicine, Health and Psychology

Last Thursday, students and parents gathered for the second event in our Responsible Futuring series, exploring the many pathways and possibilities within medicine, health and psychology.

Facilitated by Head of School, Dr Julie McGonigle, the morning featured an inspiring panel of professionals working across emergency medicine, physiotherapy, psychology, general practice, research and allied health. Students gained valuable insight into university pathways, subject choices, workplace experiences and the future of healthcare.

Following the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to connect directly with speakers, asking questions and receiving personalised advice about their own future aspirations.

A sincere thank you to all of our panellists for so generously sharing their time, wisdom and experiences with our community.

From the Paul Kelly

From the Paul Kelly Cup to the national stage

As Sir Doug Nicholls Round approaches, we are proud to share that Year 7 student Marlon Coulthard has been featured in an AFL Media story highlighting his journey through the game and his connection to the Sydney Swans First Nations Academy.

Marlon’s pathway into AFL began, like many young players in NSW, through the Paul Kelly Cup, an experience our School has been proud to support for the past decade as part of our ongoing commitment to student participation in representative sport. From there, his passion and talent have continued to grow as he develops within the Sydney Swans First Nations Academy, building both his football skills and cultural connection.

In a memorable twist, Marlon can also be seen wearing his St Andrew’s Cathedral School AFL jersey in the national AFL feature, a proud reminder of his early representative journey with us.

This feature forms part of the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round celebrations, which recognise and honour the outstanding contribution of First Nations peoples to the game and broader community.

We celebrate Marlon’s achievements, his dedication and the way he continues to represent his culture, his community and our School with pride both on and off the field.

NSW State Champion!

NSW State Champion! 🏆

Congratulations to Year 10 student Lucas Shi, who has been crowned the 2026 Australian Brain Bee NSW State Champion after achieving the highest individual score among 50 finalists at the UNSW State Finals last week.

The Australian Brain Bee Challenge is a nationwide neuroscience competition that tests students’ knowledge of the brain, nervous system, memory, emotions, neurological disorders and more through quizzes, workshops and hands-on learning experiences.

Following a full day of neuroscience lectures, workshops and challenging quizzes, Lucas’ outstanding result has earned him a place at the national competition later this year.

A huge congratulations also to Elisabeth Rhodes and Ella Norman, who represented the School with excellence during the middle of exam week. All three students should be commended for their dedication, curiosity and exemplary attitude throughout the event.

We are incredibly proud of these students and grateful to the staff who helped make this opportunity possible.

Building coaches. Gr

Building coaches. Growing students. Strengthening sport at St Andrew’s Cathedral School.

As part of our commitment to developing our staff through coaching and mentoring, our Sport Coach Professional Learning Programme took an exciting step forward over the summer sport season with the launch of our bespoke professional learning workshops.

Led through a collaboration between our Senior Learning Coach, Ms Elle Smith, and our Head Coach - Touch Football, Mr Rafael Briant the workshops were designed using evidence-informed sport coaching practices aligned to the St Andrew's Sport Coaching Model.

The impact was immediate, seeing greater consistency across training sessions, high expectations for students, and quality feedback that supported both performance and growth.

This season also saw a record number of St Andrew's Touch Football teams make finals, while our Senior Girls coach India Fergusson was recognised for her coaching expertise and selected as the ISA Touch Football coach.

A wonderful example of how evidence informed sport coach development can promote collective efficacy among our sport coaches and positively shape the student sporting experience.

A partnership built

A partnership built on compassion, service and song 🙏

For more than 12 years, St Andrew’s Cathedral School has partnered with Anglicare to support vulnerable members of our community through volunteering, fundraising and service initiatives.

This year, that partnership was brought to life in a powerful new way as 20 students performed ‘Janet’s Song’ at Anglicare’s annual gala dinner, an original composition honouring resilience, hope and the life-changing impact of community support.

The performance reminded students that music can be more than entertainment, it can be an act of service, empathy and care for others.

We are proud of our students for using their gifts and talents to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
