Celebrating 141 Year

Celebrating 141 Years of St Andrew's Cathedral School! 🎉

Our annual Gala Day brought students from Kindergarten to Year 12 together to celebrate 141 years of St Andrew's Cathedral School and mark the end of another incredible term with a day full of fun, friendly competition and House spirit.

There was a mix of volleyball, dance-off, trivia, creative challenges, games and activities across the School, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Congratulations to Canterbury House, who claimed this year's Gala Day win as Secondary School champions!

A huge thank you to our incredible Parents & Friends Association for organising the much-loved Gala Day BBQ lunch. With more than 40 parent volunteers giving their time throughout the day, your generosity and dedication helped make the day such a success. We are so grateful for your support of our School community.

A special thank you to Year 11 student Jasper S for his photography.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for another memorable Gala Day. We wish everyone a safe, restful and well-deserved holiday break, and look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 3!

What are our teachers getting up to these holidays?

We caught up with Mrs Kate Robertson and Ms Sandi Oh from our Music Department to hear about their highlights from Term 2, what they’re looking forward to in Term 3 and how they’ll be spending the break.

From outstanding performances, student achievements and exciting opportunities still to come, there’s plenty to celebrate in our music community as we look ahead to another busy term of music-making.

Our AFL programme ca

Our AFL programme came together for Community Day last term, bringing both our Junior and Senior teams onto the same stage, supported strongly by players, families and staff along the sidelines.

Both teams competed with determination against a highly experienced Waverley side, continuing to develop their connection and confidence in only the programme’s second year within the School’s sporting pathway.

The Junior team applied strong pressure throughout, working hard to disrupt their opposition. Bryan W was solid in defence, while Ned R and Sam N led with consistent effort across the ground.

The Senior team responded with courage and intensity in every contest. Douglas W was relentless through the midfield, finishing with eight tackles, while Wendell F was rewarded with his first AFL goal, a standout moment in the match.

Beyond the football, the day highlighted the values of the AFL programme through involvement in the Big Freeze initiative in support of the fight against Motor Neurone Disease. Players wore commemorative socks during their matches before coaches, staff and players took part in an ice bucket challenge after the games. Through the generosity of the AFL community, more than $1,800 has been raised in donations and approximately $1,300 from sock sales.

Thank you to all players, families and staff who contributed to the day. We look forward to more AFL next term.

Paddles up!

Six Year 10 students recently embarked on an incredible sea kayaking expedition through Myall Lakes National Park, journeying from Neranie Campground all the way to Nelson Bay.

Blessed with stunning weather and spectacular coastal scenery, the group embraced the challenge of navigating the waterways while building resilience, teamwork and outdoor skills along the way.

From peaceful mornings on the water to unforgettable moments exploring one of New South Wales' most beautiful natural environments, the expedition was a rewarding adventure for all involved.

Congratulations to our students on a fantastic achievement!

Fifty Years of Deadl

Fifty Years of Deadly: Celebrating Culture, Truth and Legacy

Last week, Gawura School led our school community in a moving and powerful NAIDOC Assembly and Morning Tea in the Cathedral ahead of the national observance during the school holidays. Guided by this year's theme, 'Fifty Years of Deadly', we honoured five decades of celebrating First Nations cultures, histories, achievements and voices.

The K-6 assembly opened with a series of traditional dances taught by Aunty Rayma Johnson.

A highlight of the assembly was a student-led presentation exploring the history of NAIDOC, tracing its journey from the 1938 Day of Mourning through to the nationwide celebration we know today. Students reflected on the activists, Elders and community leaders whose courage and determination helped shape the movement, reminding us that the story of NAIDOC is one of resilience, advocacy and cultural pride.

We were honoured to welcome special guests, including Commissioner Sue-Anne Hunter, the newly appointed National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People, Gawura School co-founders Aunty Sharon Minniecon and Pastor Ray Minniecon, alongside families, community members and supporters who joined us in celebrating this important occasion.

The presentation of the Mudyi Awards recognised students who embody friendship, cultural understanding and meaningful engagement with First Nations perspectives. Named after the Wiradjuri word for "friend", these awards celebrate the connections and mutual respect that strengthen our school community.

The assembly concluded with powerful performances of Djirri Djirri, Speak the Truth and the Farewell Dance, leaving our community with a reminder that NAIDOC is not only a celebration of the past 50 years, but also a commitment to the generations still to come.

At St Andrew's Cathedral School, we are grateful for the leadership of Gawura School and for the opportunity to learn from and celebrate the enduring strength, culture and contributions of First Nations peoples. As we reflect on Fifty Years of Deadly, we look ahead with hope, continuing to listen, learn and walk together in respect.

Another Grand Final.

Another Grand Final. Another Outstanding Result.

The St Andrew’s Cathedral School Senior Theatresports team has once again demonstrated why they are among the strongest school improvisation teams in Sydney, finishing runners-up in the 2026 Theatresports Schools Challenge Grand Final last weekend.

Bella Gale, William Wheeler, Lawson Van Der Merwe, Owen Beaumont and Clem Arthurson delivered a near-flawless performance against the state's best young improvisers, ultimately securing second place in a fiercely contested final against Sydney Grammar.

Remarkably, this marks the sixth consecutive year that St Andrew's has finished in the top two of the competition, an extraordinary achievement that reflects the talent, dedication and creativity of our students and staff.

Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season and on continuing a tradition of excellence in Theatresports.

And that’s a wrap on Term 2!

Today marks the final day of an absolutely bustling Term 2! Looking back, it’s clear our community has thrown themselves into absolutely everything this term.

We’ve camped, competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon and ISA sports, celebrated our amazing community at Grandparents Days and Mother’s Day, crowned our SACS Factor winners, performed at Showcase and given back through the Anglicare Clothing Drive.

Whether on the sporting field, the stage or in the classroom, we are so proud of everyone’s efforts.

Have a fantastic, safe and relaxing winter holiday, everyone! See you in Term 3! 💙

Round 3 Victory for

Round 3 Victory for our Mock Trial Team!

Huge congratulations to our incredible students who defeated Willoughby Girls High School in a thrilling civil case round last week! Acting for the defence, our students absolutely shone, some stepping into brand-new roles with confidence, while others masterfully implemented feedback from previous rounds.

Ms Penny Austin (HSIE Teacher) shared her pride in a message to the team:
"I’m so proud of each of you... every one of you did so well. A huge effort late in the Term. It’s a privilege to work with such a dedicated and kind group of young people."

With a fantastic 30-point margin win, our fingers are firmly crossed for the elimination rounds! Outstanding work, team!
