We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Year 6 student Ian Yan, who has qualified for the final round of the prestigious Leonid Kogan International Competition in Brussels this June.
Widely regarded as one of the most challenging international violin competitions for young musicians, selection for the finals is an extraordinary accomplishment. Ian’s dedication, talent and work ethic have earned him a place among the world’s top young violinists, a remarkable achievement for a student in Year 6.
Beyond his musical excellence, Ian is known for his humility, positivity and commitment in all areas of school life.
“I’m very honoured to become a finalist in the Leonid Kogan International Violin Competition. I would like to thank my school for the support and encouragement," Ian says.
We wish Ian all the very best as he prepares to represent himself, his family and our School in Brussels later this year.
A chilly morning made warmer by community, coffee and celebration at our P&F Mother’s Day Celebration in Sydney Square last Friday!
Mothers and special mother figures enjoyed barista-made coffee, delicious breakfast sliders and sweet moments together as we celebrated all that they do for our community. Students loved stopping by the photo station for a special keepsake with their mums, and there were plenty of smiles thanks to a surprise visit from Andy the Gargoyle!

Today we celebrate all the mums and mother figures in our community. From school drop-offs and homework help to comforting hugs and unwavering support - you play an irreplaceable role in the lives of our students, and we are deeply grateful.
Thank you to all who attended our P&F Mother's Day Morning on Friday and to the P&F for making the morning so special.
We also hold in our hearts those for whom today is difficult - students who may not be able to be with their mothers, and families where a mother may not be present. We pray for all mothers, and for children to be surrounded by caring mentors, role models and nurturing support.
To every mum, grandma, aunty and carer we thank you for the love, strength and guidance you give. Your presence means more than words can say. ... See MoreSee Less
A thoughtful message from our Student Representative Council has been posted to Sir David Attenborough as he celebrates his 100th birthday.
Students across Year 8–12 worked together to draft a heartfelt letter thanking Sir David for his extraordinary contribution to education, conservation and storytelling, and for inspiring generations to remain curious about the natural world.
The letter reflects on the impact his documentaries and advocacy have had on our students and wider school community, while also acknowledging the inspiration behind this year’s Andrean of the Year theme, 'Frontiers of the World'.
Thank you to our SRC members for their collaboration, creativity and care in recognising such an important global figure on this remarkable milestone.

Our talented Year 6 artists enjoyed an inspiring day at the Visual Arts Gifted and Talented workshop, ‘Escape to the City: Sydney’s Grand Architecture’, on Wednesday 22 April.
A group of 20 students, selected for their outstanding talent in Visual Arts, explored the city through the eyes of artists and architects. Beginning on Level 4 in the Hub, students observed the surrounding skyline before making their way to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, stopping along the way to study examples of Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Modern and Brutalist architecture.
At the gallery, students visited the ARTEXPRESS exhibition and viewed the work of Ruby Daley (OA2025). Seeing her artwork on display was a special and inspiring moment for our budding artists as they reflected on their own creative journeys at St Andrew’s.
The day concluded in Hyde Park, where students painted ‘en plein air’, with some experimenting in the style of renowned Australian artist Grace Cossington Smith, known for her expressive brushwork and vibrant use of colour.
It was a truly memorable experience filled with creativity, curiosity and inspiration. A big thank you to Mrs Miriam Daly for organising such a wonderful opportunity for our young artists. ... See MoreSee Less
🌏 Celebrating creativity, curiosity, and a remarkable milestone.
Today, Friday 8 May, St Andrew’s Cathedral School proudly marks the launch of the 2026 Andrean of the Year programme while also wishing Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday!
Each year, this award recognises outstanding creative achievement across our student community. In 2026, students are invited to explore the theme ‘Frontiers of the World’ – inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s lifelong work as a nature documentary maker and environmental advocate.
‘Frontiers’ can mean many things: wild places still unexplored, hidden worlds too small or vast to see, the boundary between humans and nature or the future we are shaping right now. Through writing, art, music and design, students are encouraged to respond creatively to the world as it is, as it once was, or as it might become.
Students can enter in four categories:
✍️ Writer – Short Story 🎨 Artist – Artwork or Photograph 🎼 Composer – Original Music Composition 💡 Designer – Product and Pitch Video
Entries are due by Monday 19 October, with prizes and certificates awarded in each category.
We look forward to seeing our students push creative boundaries and explore new frontiers.
