Celebrating National Science Week

What a week of curiosity, discovery and scientific thinking!

As part of National Science Week, 20 students from Year 3-6 across Junior School and Gawura School headed to the Sydney Science Trail at the Australian Museum and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Students enjoyed a day packed with hands-on learning and exploration.

From investigating sustainable communities in the Making Good Places Workshop, to meeting blue-tongue lizards and exploring specimens at the Science Expo, students had plenty of opportunities to see science in action. The Great Big Science Show brought chemistry and physics to life with spectacular demonstrations, while a visit to the Royal Botanic Garden explored how plants adapt to different environments.

The Sydney Science Trail was a wonderful way to celebrate our budding scientists and inspire them to keep asking questions, exploring ideas and discovering where science can take them.

Yesterday morning we

Yesterday morning we were honoured to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, to St Andrew’s Cathedral School for a very special visit to Gawura School.

Gawura School is a unique school within St Andrew’s Cathedral School, providing a Kindergarten to Year 6 education for First Nations children. Located on Gadigal Country in the heart of Sydney, the School combines high academic expectations with a deep commitment to culture, identity, belonging and connection to Country and community.

Her Excellency’s morning began with a beautiful First Nations dance performance, followed by a Q&A with students. She then joined a Kindergarten class for a reading session, sharing in the joy of learning with some of our youngest students.

The morning concluded with a special morning tea, providing an opportunity to meet more of our students, staff and community.

We are incredibly grateful to Her Excellency for spending the morning with our Gawura School community – celebrating the wonderful young people at the heart of the School.

What a special day!

Year 10 Personal Pro

Year 10 Personal Project Exhibition

Last Friday, we celebrated the creativity, curiosity and incredible achievements of our Year 10 students at our Personal Project Exhibition!

After more than a year of research, planning, creating and refining their ideas, our students shared an amazing range of projects inspired by their individual interests and passions.

From chocolate making and a beautifully crafted cake book, to an anatomy book, French language book and an iron-deficiency recipe book, our students explored an incredible range of topics. We also saw a powerful book celebrating autistic women who have changed the world, creative projects in nail art, social surveys exploring issues that matter to young people, table tennis rackets, animal-related projects and so much more!

The exhibition was a wonderful reflection of the diversity of our students and the many different ways they can turn an idea, interest or question into something meaningful and tangible.

We are incredibly proud of the passion, creativity, perseverance and learning on display. What an inspiring group of young people — and what a wonderful reminder that learning truly comes alive when students are given the opportunity to follow their curiosity.

Mission accomplished

Mission accomplished: Get Smart!

Last week, our Middle School Drama Ensemble brought the hilarious world of 1960s espionage to the stage with Get Smart by Christopher Sergel.

Across five performances, audiences were introduced to Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 as they stumbled their way through secret missions, KAOS plots, unlikely escapes and plenty of slapstick comedy. With its retro spy technology, surreal set design and larger-than-life characters, the production was packed with theatrical energy and plenty of laughs.

For our Year 8 and 9 students, the production was also an opportunity to develop their acting skills, work collaboratively and experience the many moving parts that come together to create a live theatre production.

“It has been wonderful to see our students grow in confidence throughout this production. They have worked incredibly hard as an ensemble, supporting one another, taking creative risks and developing their skills both on and off the stage. Seeing them come together to create something they can be proud of has been a real highlight,” Director, Mrs Ashleigh Chakarovski said.

Congratulations to our talented cast, crew and everyone who helped bring Get Smart to life. And thank you to everyone who came along to support our Middle School performers, we hope you enjoyed the mission as much as we did!

The seminar explored practical ways to foster resilience, self-regulation and responsible independence in children, while helping parents build confidence in their parenting.

Thank you to Dr Brown for sharing her expertise, and to all the parents who joined us for an engaging and thought-provoking afternoon.
