At St Andrew’s Cat

At St Andrew’s Cathedral School, we believe every student should make excellent progress — no matter where they begin.

We are proud to share that St Andrew’s has been recognised as:

🏆 The #1 Secondary School in NSW for academic progress between Years 7–9
🏆 4th in NSW for Primary School progress between Years 3–5

(Based on NAPLAN data from 2023–2025.)

These results reflect far more than test scores. They represent years of deliberate, research-informed teaching and a shared commitment to helping every student grow with confidence, capability and purpose.

Our approach combines:

📚 Evidence-based teaching grounded in cognitive science
✍️ Explicit instruction in writing across disciplines
🎯 Strong professional learning and collaboration among teachers
🧠 Learning skills programmes that help students understand how learning works

Most importantly, these achievements reflect the dedication of our teachers, the perseverance of our students and the partnership of our families.

At St Andrew’s, progress matters because it tells the story of growth — and growth changes lives.

Australian Champions

Australian Champions!

An outstanding result for our students this week, who have been crowned Australian Final winners of the Kids’ Lit Quiz.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an international literature competition for students aged 10-13, where teams of four compete across rapid-fire rounds covering a wide range of children’s books, authors, characters and genres. After progressing through intense questioning and strong teamwork, our students delivered an exceptional performance to take out the national title.

This victory now earns them the incredible opportunity to represent Australia at the World Final in New Zealand later this year.

A huge congratulations to the team on this remarkable achievement, and to the staff who supported them in preparing for such a challenging and prestigious competition.

We look forward to cheering them on as they head to Aotearoa to compete against the world’s best.

Congratulations to o

Congratulations to our students who represented the School at the NSW State Da Vinci Decathlon.

Competing against large fields across Year 7-10, our teams tackled an exceptionally demanding programme of interdisciplinary challenges spanning areas such as mathematics, science, engineering, code breaking, art and philosophy. Many of the tasks required advanced reasoning well beyond age level, making the experience both rigorous and highly enriching.

We are proud of the way our students approached the competition with focus, collaboration and resilience, producing outstanding results against strong opposition from schools across the state.

A terrific example of academic curiosity and teamwork in action.

Sydney Writers’ Fe

Sydney Writers’ Festival

Last Thursday, students from Years 3–6 attended the Sydney Writers’ Festival Primary School Days programme at Sydney Town Hall, joining a vibrant celebration of stories, ideas and imagination.

Across the day, students participated in engaging sessions with acclaimed children’s authors and illustrators, hearing directly about the craft of storytelling and the joy of reading and writing. They had the opportunity to ask questions, meet presenters during breaks and explore the dedicated festival bookshop.

It was a fantastic experience that encouraged curiosity, creativity and a deeper love of literature.

Today, on National S

Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength and resilience of First Nations Peoples and remember the Stolen Generations.

Yesterday, our Middle School students and staff gathered for a special assembly featuring a reflection from Ms Bronwyn Wake, Head of Character and Wellbeing, a moving video exploring the experiences of the Stolen Generations and a flute performance by one of our students.

As a School community, we recognise the importance of listening, learning and acknowledging the truths of Australia’s history. National Sorry Day reminds us of the ongoing impact of past injustices and the responsibility we share in walking together towards reconciliation.

At St Andrew’s Cathedral School, this learning and reflection remains an ongoing journey for our community.
