Staff book club a hit

Graphic designer Nicole Pincaro loved reading James Clear’s ‘Atomic Habits’ so much that she decided to start a book club with staff from St Andrew’s Cathedral School.“Though I’m not a teacher and though I don’t have a formal leadership role, I know I can be a leader and I’ve been given opportunities to grow in that space.”Staff from a range of departments – teaching, finance, marketing and facilities – jumped at Nic’s idea and joined her book club.Nic’s biggest learning?…“If you have an idea, go for it! Talk to your leaders about it and more often than not, at St Andrew’s Cathedral School, they will empower you to go for it.”

Dr Kirsten Macaulay, our new Deputy Head (Quality Teaching)

Congratulations Dr Kirsten Macaulay, our new Deputy Head (Quality Teaching). From 2023, Kirsten will lead St. Andrew’s Cathedral School thought leadership in the area of quality teaching within a Christian framework. This will occur through the provision of local and national/international conferences, publications, lecture series, networking events and collaborative partnerships.

It’s with great delight that we release our first ever school journal – the ‘2022 Research Conversations Journal’. It’s filled with peer reviewed articles from our staff who write with insight and depth about all things teaching. There’s action research, reflection on teaching and learning practice, and several book reviews too.

An outstanding performance

We were so delighted that our students were invited to perform at the #amchamcelebrates national Alliance Awards Gala Dinner last night at the International Convention Centre. Two of our outstanding Junior School musicians Annabelle (Year 4) and Isaac (Year 5) performed the US and Australian national anthems to open the dinner and awards presentation in front of around 800 members, including the US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy (pictured).

Celebrating World Teacher’s Day

Today is World Teacher’s Day and we think it’s only right that teachers everywhere get the praise they’re due. Would you join us as we say a BIG thank you? Estee’s busy week

Our Head of Gifted Education (Secondary) Estee Stephenson has had a busy week! She has just presented at two conferences – the Global Assessment Conference and the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented Conference.

ICT Teacher of the Year

We’re delighted for Amanda Hogan, Deputy Head of Technological & Applied Studies, who has received the ICT Teacher of the Year award from the the ICT Educators of NSW. Amazing achievement from an amazing teacher! Amanda is now in the running for the national award.

Purpose, Mechanisms and Bias

Our annual Research Conversations online conference is fast approaching on Saturday 29 October. All educators are invited to join us for five hours of professional learning discussions on a huge variety of topics.
