Best ever International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IDBP) result

Share

Our 2023 Year 12 IB students have achieved the School’s best ever IBDP results. An outstanding 85% (out of a cohort of 47 students) achieved an ATAR over 90 with 17% achieving an ATAR of 99 or above.

A record three students achieved a perfect score of 45, including the IB Diploma Programme Dux Dashiel Drury. A further three students achieved an outstanding 44 out of 45.

The average Diploma point score across all students is 38, as compared to a world average of 30.

This year 34 per cent of all IBDP grades were 7s and 74% were 6s or 7s, which is a significant uplift
to pre-COVID scores.

For those of you who are new to the IB Diploma Programme, students study six subjects (three at Higher Level HL and three at Standard Level SL), which are each graded out of 7. They can then receive three additional points for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge subjects, making a maximum grade point score of 45.

Over the last three years 2020, 2021 and 2022, the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) took out some of the examination components and lowered grade boundaries to account for the COVID effect across the world. This year, 2023, was the first year since COVID that students had to sit all of the examination components and were assessed against pre-COVID grade boundaries.

Given the character, courage and composure that these students had to show due to the changed conditions as well as the critical incident that occurred soon after the start of this exam series, this is a truly exceptional set out outcomes.

Below are listed the students who attained IB scores of 34 or above which equates to an ATAR of 90 or above.

These results are testament to the School’s Director of Learning (IBDP) Mrs Sharon Munro who superbly leads and supports an exemplary team of IBDP teachers. Thanks also to the Deputy Head of School (Secondary) Mr Brad Swibel, Head of Senior College, Mr David Lindsay, Deputy Head of Senior College, Mrs Sonia Witheridge, Heads of Department, Heads of House, counsellors, tutors, learning coaches and support and administration staff. This is a huge team effort that has taken place over many years.

Finally, many, many congratulations to the IBDP graduates! We recognise the significant challenges that you have faced yet you overcame. Not only are we proud of your results but we are also proud of who you have become, the character you have crafted, courage you have displayed and the convictions you have learned to hold true.

Also, thank you on behalf of all the staff to the parents and caregivers of these students. You walked every step of the journey too and they couldn’t have done it without you. It is a pleasure to work in partnership with our wonderful parents and caregivers to enable growth in our young people.
