Ms Amanda Hogan has been honoured as a Leader in Information and Communication Technology for the state.

We are thrilled to announce that Ms Amanda Hogan, Deputy Head of Technological and Applied Studies at St Andrew’s Cathedral School, has been recognised by the Information and Communication Technology Educators NSW (ICTENSW). Amanda has received the prestigious ICTENSW Leader of the Year Award.

ICTENSW is a non-profit professional teaching association for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), computer science and STEM educators. The organisation provides professional development and resources, and supports digital literacy, digital citizenship and understanding AI.

The ICTENSW Leader of the Year Award acknowledges the work of innovative educators. Amanda has been recognised as a leader and mentor to St Andrew’s Cathedral School and the broader educational community. She has provided advocacy, support and promotion of the use of ICT in education.

Following her degree in Business, specialising in Computers and Information Systems, Amanda worked for Microsoft for five years. It was during that time that she came to realise she desired a different path. She retrained as a teacher, pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching, a Master in ICT Integration and a Master of Education.

“I love what I do. I came to a realisation that I wanted something more out of life so took the opportunity to retrain. I have had the opportunity to work with many different aspects of the running of the School as an IT consultant – from student leadership to database and web design. I also get to occasionally play with robots and make computer games, and watch students’ eyes light up when they do the same. I love everything about learning,” said Amanda.

Amanda’s role at St Andrew’s Cathedral School has overseen the implementation of the new Software engineering syllabus, expedited the use of Edstem as an Integrated Development Environment and improved resources for the use of Senior Computing Students. She has always championed the teaching of Computing Theory through interesting real world projects.

This ICTENSW Leader of the Year Award highlights Amanda’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the role of technology in education. Amanda has made an incredible impact, not only within the School but also across the wider educational community. From her years of service on the ICT Educators NSW board to her ongoing efforts in running Professional Learning both in school and in the wider computing teacher community, Amanda continuously demonstrates her dedication to improving digital literacy and empowering educators. Her passion for education shines through in all she does.

“I feel so honoured to be recognised in this way. But this award is also a credit to my amazing colleagues, who have been so supportive of my work and ICT initiatives and of the school for encouraging me in my outreach,” said Amanda.

“This award couldn’t be more deserved. We’re so proud of Amanda and all she has achieved at the School, and I’m excited for what she will continue to do here,” said Krystian Bacewicz, Head of Technological and Applied Studies.

This award is a well-deserved recognition of her remarkable contributions, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as part of our St Andrew’s Cathedral School community.
