Performance Opportunities

Our excellent reputation in the performing arts is supported by a range of co-curricular ensemble performance opportunities for secondary students alongside competing theatre sports and improvisation teams. Our teaching team draw from acting, technical and improvisation backgrounds.

St Andrew’s secondary drama students perform in the School’s in-house Black-Box Theatre, as well as highly professional venues across the city, including the Enmore TheatreATYD, NIDA and the Sydney Opera House.

Drama Ensembles

St Andrew’s has six drama groups operating in the secondary school. Ensembles meet one afternoon a week after school during term-time, with extra rehearsals scheduled in the lead-up to performances. Students can join:

  • Year 7 Drama Club
  • Middle School Ensemble (Years 8-9)
  • Senior College Ensemble (Years 10-12)
  • Theatre Sports Juniors (Years 7-8)
  • Theatre Sports Intermediates (Years 9-10)
  • Theatre Sports Seniors (Years 11-12)

Drama Workshops

Our students often participate in workshops run by highly accomplished actors.

School Musical

The biannual school musical is a highly professional extravaganza involving actors, musicians and singers across the school. It takes place on the alternate year to the major drama production. In 2019, our whole school musical is Fiddler on the Roof, which follows on from the highly acclaimed 2017 production, The Wizard of Oz at NIDA’s Parade Theatre in Kensington.

In 2016, Dance was introduced as both a curriculum subject and co-curricular activity after school in the secondary school. A growing number of dance performance opportunities are being offered, including at our end of year Evening of Celebration and Prize-giving at Sydney Town Hall.

The Junior School also offers Jazz, Hip Hop and Ballet as a co-curricular activity after school.
